Wellness & Knowledge

Get fit, stay fit. Asteri also offers need-based wellness services. SUNY Poly nurse practitioners are at-the-ready to help keep you healthy. Peace of mind is important, as well—so to minimize the stress of day-to-day tasks, GPO Credit Union offers on-site financial training classes to residents.

Indoor-Outdoor Commons

Sometimes a comfy spot, a nice book and basking in the sun is as good as it gets. The first floor has areas with soft seating perfect for quiet time or hanging with friends (with a view of the park, too). There’s also an outdoor nook with small seating on those days when fresh air beckons.

Building history

The Whiffen-Ribyat Building

In 1893, the Asteri building was built by meat merchant Isaac J. Whiffen & sons then known as the Whiffen Building. Around 1916 the building was briefly occupied by a Ford Motor Company. Then around 1922 the property became home to Ribyat Brothers Furniture Company. They added two more stories to the original 4 story building and included a sign that our Asteri sign. In the 1960’s the building changed hands to Jeffrey Hardware a family business that occupied the space for more than 40 years. With the exception of new cladding on the lower façade, the building at 327-331 Bleecker Street today looks very much as it did in the 1920’s.
